In reply to: playerwilson posted an update Well guys I have a question! Mike you can probably help me the most. Anyway my birthday is Feb 13th so it\'s coming pretty quick and I\'m tired of buying propane! Plus I\'m tired of messing up the smell and smoothness of my likker cuz i can\'t get the heat right. So I want to add a electric element 220 volt system to my still! I only have 400$ to play with! So can somebody tell me what I should buy for that amount of money!? And I think I need to make a bigger cap and arm for my still for flow reasons. Check this video out I was running this fast and it still smelled like vodka not corn. I\'ve had one run that tasted just like beam but was clear and one really good corn smelling sour mash. And my other 8 runs have been shit !! To rough to drink straight so I make a crap ton of apple pie. I want good clear not apple crap ! Lol!! Help me. View

Well looks like I’m gonna have to spend 500 Cruz my boiler is 20 gallon and I got a 6 gallon thumper so I think is be better off with the 5500. I read the reviews on it and most of them are really good but a few of them said it over heated? U ever here that. I no hs makes some of the best stuff out there i just don’t want to drop 500 and sum…[Read more]

  • Now my temp gauge is broke but it said 195 and i was running this slow! So why is the smell off and the smoothness rough as hell

In reply to: playerwilson posted an update Well guys I made up a batch of shine using dooleys recipe that he gave me with my own touch added to it. Any my first sp/gr reading was 1.102 and my 2nd 1 was 1.001, giving me a 13% wash. Which doesn\'t seem high enough! How can I get the yeast to eat more of the sugar? I don\'t think it done yet because I put my lid on and it blew all the water outta my double bubbler. But it\'s not doing much inside the barrel. I also used amylase enzymes to. I think it was like 1 tee spoon per 5 gallons. Anyway I figured my wash would have been way higher. Even my corn mashes have been off. I was running likker out at 150 at the heads, now my heads are at 130. Why is this? Only thing I\'m doing different is soaking my corn! In my corn mash. And with the corn rye and malted I went right by the recipe View

Well just a little update on my mash. I forgot to add 5 gallon of water so my mash numbers was of but hey it worked into my favor. My first jar after the crap off the top came out at 148-150 and it was my first corn rye, and malted barley shine!

    • let mash go till you get 0.990 or 0.980 any where 13 to 15% is good using wp yeast. with turbo you can get higher using 2lbs sugar per gal of water. as for drop in your runs could be your running to fast slow it down to fast drips see if it comes up.

In reply to: playerwilson posted an update Can anybody tell me a few tricks to get my proof up higher. I used some yeast nutrient in my last batch and i ran 5 quarts at 1St 1 was at 150 2nd quart was 148 3rd was 138 4th was 128 and 5th was 112, and I ran a 6th at 78. But we didn\'t use it I threw it in the new mash I made up the next day View

    Just 5 gallon dooley.

    • that’s a lot for 5 gals. your 1st quart is 75% not gonna get much higher than that with a pot still unless you run it twice

In reply to: playerwilson posted an update Hey guys it\'s me again, I can\'t find a feed store near me that sells a all grain sweetfeed. So naturally I thought about making my own, what grain do I need to complete this. I was gonna buy a bag off hb stills but it started at 23$ ended up at 64$ I can\'t afford that. Any help would be great! View

Ok thx peter. The feed I’m having mixed they told me I could get it wet as I wanted with the molasses. How wet should I get it?

Ok mike I’m having 500lbs mixed up at this mill close to my house. My question is, he asked about protein they said they could do up to 14% , but I’m not for sure what the protein is for? I told him I didn’t want any pellets already. But what else should I tell him I don’t want in it, that’s no good for what I’m using it for.
