In reply to: kenny posted an update @mike Question i see recipes where you run your still fast then redo it again so do u just cut the flame off open it up pour the liquor you made back into the wash left in the still? does this give you more liquor or higher proof? i am using a 5 gallon copper still.. View

NO, you empty your wash from your still. Then cut your product to 50% with water. Then redistill. I hope this helps you

I have never aerate a wash.. but I do however stir it really well when I start it to get plenty of oxygen in the water.

I am so sorry to be so long getting back to you on this. I think you will find this makes your shine much easier than a pot still and the product is much cleaner. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

I would through out what was left in the pot. I never run below 100 proof. At that point normally your into tails. You can make bourbon from this. I normally mix my hearts together and cut it back to about 90 proof for drinking

In reply to: cookie posted an update in the group Just Talk I am going to build a 2\" Shotgun Condenser. I was wandering what would be a good length to use on a 3\" pot still that has a column that is 18\' tall? View

about 12 inches. Use small tubes and many of them

In reply to: jed928 posted an update So I made a fresh batch of mash 13 days ago. I used 17 pounds of flaked maize, 5 pounds of crushed malted 2 row, and 20 pounds of dextrose but I found a 5 pound bag of fresh ground cornmeal. I used 10 gallons of water and added 3 bags of turbo yeast because after other batches had finished, the wash was still really sweet. After about 3 days the fermenting had stopped. On day 7 I noticed it was fermenting again, not vigorously but you could tell it was. I\'m now on day 13 and its still going. How long can the mash sit before it spoils and can\'t be used? View

leave it until it taste bitter. If it is sweet it is not finished working. It will work very hard for the first few days, then it will slow way down. if you can see any movement it is still working

In reply to: taylor88 posted an update in the group Beginner Distillers Hello, I\'m new to the forums as I\'m new to distilling. I have just finshed making a smiple 5 gallon still, I\'m looking to start my mash I plan on making a 5 gallon corn whiskey mash. I have a couple question tho, my first question has to do with me recipe, I found this one. To try: 5 gallon water 5 lbs cracked corn 10 lbs sugar What are your thoughts on how much yeast to add? Also the cracked corn do I need to grind it or am I good to put in the mash whole? And finally the water do I heat my water up first then add the rest? View

Yes heat your water then add your sugar. Make sure that the temp is below 90 degrees before you add your yeast though

your dead on right. They have been getting there doors rattled for a little while now. We just need more people to let there congressman know that this needs to be changed. The laws are all about taxes. That is the only reason it is illegal today. The laws have just never been rewritten.

In reply to: mike posted an update Ok guys I am not a big fan of this set up. We purchased it from china to check some things out on it. It has never been used and this is in our opinion about all one of these columns is worth. We have this on eBay if you would like to check it out. Like I said we did not build this. It is from china.. Buy at your own risk. http://www.ebay.com/itm/282048101643?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 View
