@mike Question i see recipes where you run your still fast then redo it again
so do u just cut the flame off open it up pour the liquor you made back into the wash left in the still? does this give you more liquor or higher proof? i am using a 5 gallon copper still..

    • mike replied 3 months ago

NO, you empty your wash from your still. Then cut your product to 50% with water. Then redistill. I hope this helps you

    • from what I’m seeing your saying your starting gravity was 1.025 that’s way to low needed to be between 1.080 to 90 but not over 1.100 try adding 10 lbs of cane sugar to get it restarted.. at 1.025 your potential abv was only 5%

Greetings, all. I want to make an Irish whiskey using 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted. Since unmalted barley is very hard to find, can I substitute flaked barley? Do I need to add anything if I do?

Where do I get charcoal filters for my sugar wash”s

  • kenny posted a new activity comment 2 years, 2 months ago

In reply to: kenny joined the group Just Talk View

What is charcoal filtering and how do I use it where do I get it

    • Charcoal filtering is used on Jack Daniels whiskey to make it smoother and get rid of impurities such as fusels. You can make your own charcoal by burning down a hardwood log into charcoal. Jack Daniels uses Canadian sugar maple.

Question charcoal filtering what s it what is it for and how do I use it

    • Question charcoal filtering what s it what is it for and how do I use it

    • I only carbon filter neutral spirits like sugar washes to remove unwanted smells and flavors not grain based spirits you want the flavor in.

    • try this Kenny.

      Stonewalls Honey Shine
One quart of honey per 1 1/2 gallons of water. One 4 oz Package of Turbo yeast per 10 gallons of mash. Ferments for 7 to 14 days and then distill.
