Mike Sweetfeed Recipe If you like a really smooth whisky you need to try this recipe I have run it several times. It is easy and so far I have never had a ferment stall. If you try it let me know what you think. I have some that has aged on oak for about 2 months and it is really smoothing out. I oak at 55% ABV.

In reply to: learpilot posted an update in the group Beginner Distillers After the fermation process has completed is there any urgency to distill or can it wait a day or two without causing any problems? View

I rack mine off the grain and put it in a cool place for a day or two. Helps yeast settle to bottom for a cleaner wash.

In reply to: puddy posted an update I\'m a first time shine maker-- I guess I should say, I\'m going to try to make some shine. I\'v read so many recipes that I\'m lost, there all in METRIC, Dam metric. Any body out there have a good simple first timer recipe in plain standard math? I have all grain sweet feed and scratch corn as my fermentation. And Turbo yeast. I have a reflux or pot still I am going to use so I can have some flavor in it. View

In reply to: stevenstills posted an update in the group Mash Recipes Need help. Ran mash bill of 10 gallons water,10# corn,5# wheat,2# rye,5# barley,5#sugar. I added 2 more gallons water. I fermented with the grain but it swelled so much it absorbed most of the liquid. Should I reduce the grain bill or sparse the grain and ferment just the liquid. View

I believe your grain bill is to high. Corn is about right or maybe 9 lbs. I would say Wheat 1.5 lbs, Rye 1 lb, Barley 1 3/4 lbs and Sugar 8 – 10 lbs.

I make a 6 gallon mash. I heat 3 gallons of water up to almost boiling and turn off heat.. I then add the corn and let it cook for about 20 minutes. I add the barley or rye at 155 degrees F. I then let in set about 90 minutes stirring occasionally. I add about another 2 gallons of water to get the temp around 104 degrees F and then add sugar. I…[Read more]
